Three applications of artificial intelligence in our everyday life

Artificial intelligence is finding its way into more and more processes in our lives. While it is often easy to see in a business context and there are visible advantages behind the use of AI, especially in medicine and industry, it is also indispensable in our everyday life. Here are three examples where artificial intelligence simplifies our lives.

Recommendation algorithms

We all know it. Netflix suggests new shipments to us and Amazon shows us which products might fit our latest purchase. The intelligent recommendation system uses artificial intelligence to learn more and more about our behavior and adapts the recommendations to our interests. The result is a personalized experience that continuously learns and improves through our own online behavior.

The algorithm of Google and Co. works similarly, providing us with an optimized web experience. The AI is used here for quality control and guarantees high-quality content at the top of the search results.

Functions such as language and image search are also increasingly incorporated into the recommendation algorithms and help to search the databases even better and more efficiently.

Maps and Ride-Hailing

It is almost difficult to remember the times before Google Maps. You had to drive around the country with maps in your car, follow the road and rely on confusing address descriptions. Thanks to Maps and other services, travel planning is no longer a problem.

The artificial intelligence behind the applications plans the optimal route, user data predicts traffic jams and traffic problems. Here too, the user experience is the focus of the application and is constantly learning.

Using machine learning, the app also remembers building shapes that are fed into the system and displays them on the map for clearer visualization. In this way, road signs will later also be recognized and interpreted, which will promote autonomous driving.

The same technology is behind Uber and other ride-ailing applications and helps to identify the optimal route and the right vehicle.

AI in Social Media

With the freedom of speech of social media comes a high need for control. In order to keep dyberbullying and hate speech to a minimum, a sophisticated AI application is needed to control the problems of social media. The algorithm may not always work perfectly, but it is constantly learning and helping to keep the social web under control.

Emojis are also interpreted by the AI and help to better decipher the mood and emotions behind posts. Face recognition is also used in social media to automatically generate suggestions for new friends or contacts, to recognize false profiles or to make the user’s experience on the web easier.

These are only three of many applications that can be found in the course of artificial intelligence. There is more AI in our everyday life than can be seen at first glance. It is used to help us make our lives easier and safer or simply to learn.
