AI to Create 78 Million More Jobs by 2030, Says WEF Report

Artificial intelligence is set to reshape the global job market, with the Future of Jobs Report 2025 from the World Economic Forum (WEF) forecasting a net increase of 78 million jobs by 2030. While 92 million positions are expected to be automated out of existence, the report predicts the creation of 170 million new roles as businesses adopt and integrate AI into their operations.

The report reveals that nearly half of all companies surveyed plan to fundamentally transform their business models through AI. Two-thirds of these businesses aim to hire workers with specific AI expertise, while 77% intend to retrain their existing workforce to work collaboratively with AI systems. Demand for skills in AI and big data, cybersecurity, and general technological literacy is expected to dominate the recruitment landscape over the next decade.

However, not all sectors will see growth. According to the WEF, roles such as postal workers, payroll clerks, and—for the first time—graphic designers are among those most at risk. The increasing capabilities of generative AI in creative and administrative tasks are reshaping these professions, leading to their decline.

Despite these losses, the report emphasises that human-machine collaboration, rather than outright worker replacement, will define the workplace of the future. Businesses are expected to hire not only AI specialists but also employees skilled in using AI as a tool to enhance productivity and innovation.

These findings come as the WEF prepares for its annual meeting in Davos, where discussions on the transformative impact of AI on the global workforce will take centre stage. While the long-term effects of AI remain uncertain, the report underscores a profound shift: AI is not just a disruptor but also a catalyst for new opportunities, requiring both businesses and workers to adapt to a rapidly changing landscape.
