What would your younger self say? – Artist trains AI chatbot with her old diaries

Sometimes the use of technology sounds like it comes straight out of a fantasy movie. Such is the case with this one. Tech artist Michelle Huang had a unique conversation thanks to the constant evolution of AI: and it was with herself.

We all know the thought “I wonder what your younger self would say about you?” – now Michelle Huang doesn’t have to ask herself that question, because she trained GPT-3’s AI chatbot with information from her old diaries. Fears, dreams, secrets – for 10 years the artist entrusted them to the pages of her diary, and now, thanks to these sources, she was able to help the artificial intelligence understand and interpret the personality of young Michelle. An excerpt from the conversation is available here:

Michelle Huang even learned something about herself by talking to her younger self.

“I would say, for me personally – the kindness and understanding I felt from my ‘past self’ helped me untangle some knots and stuckness that I felt”

The kindness of the AI Michelle could recognize impressed the tech artist, but she also noted that she has evolved a lot in the last few years and was glad she could have this “conversation”.

Michelle sees a lot of potential for further development of this technology, especially for NPCs or avatars that can take on the personality of the user and thus work harmoniously with them.

AI is sometimes reminiscent of magic, and when you read through stories like this, it remains to be seen what direction our technological development will take.
