Entertainment – An Industry in Transition

The entertainment industry is changing. I think you can see it best in the example of Amazon Prime and Netflix. What used to be simple streaming platforms are now becoming producers and influencers. The classic Hollywood system is not the same anymore and that is also strongly due to new trends and technologies.

In this post, we would like to take a look with you at the possibilities of entertainment of the future and take a closer look at a few trends.

Metaverse

The metaverse is really on everyone’s lips. But what impact will it have on entertainment? The Metaverse is essentially not a technology – solely because it involves augmented reality, virtual reality and the use of desktop and mobile – but a new way of being. There’s also a big impact on the entertainment industry here. Examples can be found in Fortnite, for example – from concerts to shared events like the 2022 Superbowl, the virtual world is now a representative of what cinema has been for many years. But unlike a classic movie, you can make the entire environment part of the experience. A show like Travis Scott’s would have been unthinkable in the real world.

Entertainment can therefore incorporate a complete immersive component and take the audience completely into a world of storytelling.

Virtual Reality

Even though VR is a part of the metaverse, it can do a lot in entertainment. In its function as a first-person medium alone – that is, as an immersive medium that completely sucks us into the world of the story – VR can bring the world of film, gaming and series closer to us and open up entirely new options.

Suddenly, viewers are right in the middle of the story, slipping into the roles of protagonists or helpers and interactively shaping their own experience. The special thing about it is that no entertainment experience is exactly the same as the previous one, so you have reasons to dive into the story world again and again.

Platform Economy

Interaction is also the buzzword for the future of entertainment. Viewers increasingly want to become part of the story. Content management solutions and platforms around stories from TV, cinema and gaming can inspire. People want to be able to interact more with the characters and become part of the fictional world, whether in series like Rick and Morty or Strangers Things. Despite all this, only a few entertainment companies exploit the full possibilities of their own stories. But in the future, there will be more and more omnichannel solutions like this, which allow as many linking elements as possible between the active consumption of the medium and the time between episodes or movies.

NFTs, augmented reality and many other trends of our time are also opening up new opportunities for Hollywood, Netflix and Co. But they are rarely really grasped and realized at present. It therefore remains exciting to see which path the individual story worlds will take and what we as consumers can expect in the future.
