Robert Downey Jr. is an actor, producer and best known as the face of Tony Stark in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now the actor has picked up a bit of the futurist behind Iron Man and wants to establish so-called rolling venture funds to be invested in sustainable companies with his environmental initiative “Footprint Coalition Ventures“, which he already presented more frequently via social media.
Sustainability and climate protection have already been a central topic of our time for many years and the neo-ecology is emerging as one of the central megatrends of the next decades for good reason. With the venture funds of the “Footprint Coalition”, Robert Downey Jr. and the other members of the initiative want to focus attention on sustainable technologies and business models to solve the problems in the areas of environment, climate and sustainability.
The two venture funds presented are divided into early-stage and later-stage investments and are intended to help startup entrepreneurs get on their feet on the one hand, and to support and strengthen startups that are already working on the vision of the environmental initiative on the other.
The rolling funds are intended to allow new chapter from new investors to join every quarter, so that they can work together on the sustainable future. Jonathan Schulhof, who leads Footprint Coalition Ventures, had this to say about it in an interview with FastCompany:
“We reach this really activated audience around a subject that [they] are very passionate about, and we want the audience to really engage in the value creation.”
For starters, the funds will focus on technologies in food, agriculture, education, media, transportation, energy and materials. The most advanced ideas for the future of our planet will then be invested in.
Robert Downey Jr. wants to use his celebrity and his rousing style of storytelling to make the general public aware of the relevance of the issue and thus, like Tony Stark, make the future a little bit better.
