Magiclingua – AI and mother tongue united

Learning a new language is a difficult task. When you recall your school days, you remember vocabulary cards and thick books. In a time of digital transformation and artificial intelligence, this can no longer be the way to success. Apps and platforms like Busuu or Babbel are developing alternatives here, but a current Kickstarter campaign goes one step further.

Magiclingua combines the latest technologies with the human being. The startup examines the learning psychology of the teachers and has discovered that a mixture of individual learning with human interaction partners leads to success.

“Our mission is to provide everyone with a personal, digital learning experience that is more affordable, flexible and entertaining than a human teacher”. – MAGICLINGUA

For the first steps of a new language, Magiclingua’s solution offers learning opportunities through AI-supported interlocutors. The artificial intelligence goes through the basics of the language with the learners and adapts to the rhythm of the user. But a pure computer solution, such as most language learning platforms have, is often not enough. The campaign also focuses on contact with real people. Therefore the users of the solution have the possibility to get in contact with native speakers and to exchange with them. AI and Human Touch combine to create a learning experience that I have never seen before.

I had the pleasure to experience the early steps of the platform and app and to follow the considerations in a conversation with one of the co-founders. For this reason, I was thrilled with the versatility with which the team approached the learning process.

Innovation Profile: Magiclingua

I have used many apps in the past to learn new languages. So I was able to learn Portuguese with Busuu and to consolidate my knowledge of Spanish with Babbel, but I always lacked an individual factor in my previous experience, which is the USP at Magiclingua. This results in the following innovation profile:

Although the learning of new languages is nothing new, the combination of artificial intelligence with native speakers represents a true added value, which is why novelty is in the middle range. However, the complexity and insecurity are very low, which is a great advantage for an application like Magiclingua. The conflict content is also limited, since the native speakers provide a high degree of security, which would not have been possible with a pure AI solution.

Fazit: Magiclingua is breaking new ground in the highly competitive market of language learning platforms. Who would like to support the startup, has still a little the possibility with Kickstarter to take part. It remains exciting, what becomes from the young enterprise and how the market of the language learning software will develop further
