At the centre of this latest development is DeepSeek Harness, a new open-source agent framework released alongside DeepSeek-V4 Pro. Both are now available through China’s National Supercomputing Internet, giving developers, research institutions and enterprises access not only to AI models, but also to the infrastructure needed to build and deploy autonomous AI systems at scale.

What is DeepSeek Harness?

A harness is the software layer that surrounds an AI model and enables it to perform real work.

This allows developers to inspect, replay, branch and analyse agent runs after execution. Such observability is becoming increasingly important for enterprise AI, where organisations need to understand not only what an agent did, but why it made particular decisions.

DeepSeek-V4 Pro Arrives Alongside the Harness

The harness launch coincides with the release of DeepSeek-V4 Pro, the latest version of the company’s flagship model.

According to DeepSeek, the model has been specifically improved for agent-based tasks and production use cases that require long reasoning chains, tool usage and sustained planning.

Importantly, DeepSeek evaluated V4 Pro on public coding-agent benchmarks using its own Harness in Minimal Mode, suggesting that the company is now developing its models and runtime environment together rather than treating them as separate products.

Perhaps the most significant announcement is not the harness itself, but where it has been deployed.

By making DeepSeek Harness available through China’s National Supercomputing Internet, the country is bringing together four critical layers of the AI stack:

The competitive question is no longer simply:

It is increasingly becoming:

Why This Could Be More Important Than Another Model Release
