Artificial intelligence is currently on everyone’s lips and many companies want to jump on this bandwagon. Browser maker Opera is also one of them and is building a new feature into its mobile and desktop browsers. In order to improve the user experience for its users, Opera will integrate the chatbot ChatGPT, which can summarize the currently opened web page or article in a short text.
This new feature will be available in the form of a new item in the app’s sidebar, but only for select users for now. Opera shares this in a blog post, emphasizing the importance of AI to the company and its focus on a better user experience.
“Shorten” is the first of these new capabilities, which Opera calls “AI-powered content services.” The “Shorten” button is expected to appear in the sidebar in the future, offering users a dialogue with ChatGPT that automatically instructs the chatbot to briefly summarize the web page or article currently being viewed.
Opera says the new feature should help make it easier to focus on what’s important and keep users focused on what’s really relevant. The company sees itself at the forefront of new innovations that offer new experiences when browsing the Web. Opera is already working on other ideas, including one that will amplify or enhance the browsing experience.
Unfortunately, “Shorten” is not yet available. However, Opera has announced that it will soon make the new feature available to all browsers – both desktop and mobile.
With this move, Opera follows Microsoft, which recently announced that it would be adding artificial intelligence to its Bing search engine and Edge Windows browser. Edge is to get a “copilot” based on ChatGPT that delivers better search results and collects content from the web on its own. At Bing, Microsoft also wants to use ChatGPT to improve search and summarize results in text form.
