On Friday afternoon, tech giant Elon Musk presented the current status of its neuralink technology. The goal of his latest startup is to connect the computer with the brain and thus combine the best of both levels.
It seems a bit like an episode of the sci-fi series Black Mirror, when Musk presented a pig named Gertrude and revealed that she has been connected to a current form of neuralink for two months. Musk described the size of the neuralink implant with a coin and said it was like “a fitbit in your skull, with tiny wires”.
Privacy and security are also a key issue, as was stated in a subsequent Q&A. The brain-machine interface should make people feel safe and well taken care of.
According to Musk in the presentation, the primary function of Neuralink is to combat common brain diseases such as memory loss, hearing loss, blindness, paralysis, depression, insomnia, extreme pain, seizures, anxiety, addiction, strokes and brain damage.
