Augmented reality revolution – Snapchat launches new smart AR glasses

Snapchat has been working on its own augmented reality headset for a few years now. Alongside many other companies, such as Facebook, Google, and Niantic, Snapchat also wants to conquer the market with its own glasses. The Spectacles project is the most ambitious of the projects presented – at least that was the announcement at Snap’s annual Partner Summit.

The new smart glasses are intended not only to record videos and photos, but also to enable direct transmission to Snapchat or another social network. Sensors and multiple cameras on the frame of the glasses detect which object the wearer is looking at and the photo or video focuses on that.

In addition to the glasses, Snap is also looking to launch an innovation lab called “Ghost,” where they plan to provide $3.5 million to help creators create new AR experiences. Another $1 million is available for augmented reality applications that use 5G as a foundation – this funding is in partnership with Verizon.

Snapchat’s latest Spectacles are full-fledged AR glasses with their own display to show 3D effects, as well as immersive games. With the completion of the glasses, this time it will not go to the public, but will be distributed to artists and developers of AR experiences on Snapchat.
