Germany risks losing its competitive edge in the European race for leadership in AI technology. While countries like the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, and the Netherlands solidify their positions, Germany has slipped to sixth place. Just a year ago, it held third. This trend highlights a significant gap between ambitious AI strategies and their implementation, according to a new Cisco study.
Since 2023, Cisco has conducted this annual survey, which this year included nearly 8,000 IT executives from companies with over 500 employees worldwide, including around 300 from Germany. The findings reveal a stark contrast: German companies may have ambitious plans for AI, but they struggle to bring these to life.
While 77% of German businesses reported having a clear AI strategy, only 36% possess the technical infrastructure needed to deploy AI solutions. Even more concerning, just 40% have the skilled workforce required to execute these strategies. This gap between aspirations and reality is a glaring issue.
The urgency for action is undeniable: 98% of respondents noted that the need for AI has become significantly more pressing over the past six months. Companies that fail to integrate AI risk losing vital competitive advantages. Despite increasing investments.
