The social media company Meta has announced the introduction of a new series of chatbots for its messenger service. But it’s about much more than just automated responses. These bots are supposed to have personalities and specialize in specific topics, whether it’s holiday advice or cooking tips. Mark Zuckerberg, the head of Meta, described the ongoing year as an “amazing year for AI”, while emphasizing that the chatbots are still in development and have their “limitations.”
This innovation is another step in the race of technology companies to develop ever more precise and personalized artificial intelligence. And in this race, Meta is using an interesting strategy: they are bringing celebrities on board. Stars like Snoop Dogg and Kendall Jenner are lending their personalities to various chatbots. It’s not just about answering user questions. “It’s not just about answering requests,” said Zuckerberg. “It’s about entertainment.”
A particularly exciting example is NFL star Tom Brady, who will embody an AI character named ‘Bru’, a “witty sports debater.” But perhaps even more surprising is the involvement of YouTube star MrBeast, who portrays ‘Zach’, an older brother who will “roast” someone.
Despite all the innovation and celebrity support, Zuckerberg admitted that there are still “many limitations” in terms of what the bots can answer. Initially, the chatbots will only be launched in the U.S. in the coming days.
