German Angst: Why we fear innovation and how we can free ourselves from it

Innovations and technologies are an important part of our modern lives. From smartphones to social media to self-driving cars, there are always new developments that change our world. But despite the many benefits that innovations bring, there are still many people who are afraid of them – especially in Germany.

This phenomenon, often referred to as “German Angst,” has its roots in the past. Many Germans still have the experiences of the two world wars and the division of the country in the back of their minds. These events have led to a deep skepticism about change and new developments. But this fear of innovation can cause Germany to lose touch with its international competitors.

To counter this German Angst, we need to realize that innovations not only bring change, but also offer many opportunities and possibilities. Here are some approaches to counteracting German Angst:

  1. Information sharing and education: one of the main causes of fear of innovation is ignorance. Therefore, it is important to inform and educate people to reduce their skepticism. Workshops, seminars and public discussions can help show people the benefits of innovation.
  2. Collaborations between science, business and society: Another way to overcome German Angst is collaboration between different actors. When scientists, entrepreneurs and representatives of society work together, they can collaborate on innovative solutions and demonstrate the benefits of innovation.
  3. Government support for innovation: The government can play an important role in encouraging innovation and combating German Angst. Through funding programs and investment in research and development, it can support change and show people that innovation is an important part of the future.
  4. Confidence in technology: To combat German Angst, people must also have confidence in technology. This is where technology and innovation manufacturers can play an important role by working to ensure transparency and safety to gain consumer trust.

Innovations and technologies are an important part of our lives and offer many opportunities and possibilities. But to take advantage of these opportunities, we must overcome our fears and concerns. Through better information sharing, collaboration and support, we can conquer German fear and reap the benefits of innovation.
